Agile formulation and early testing of
new products
How could we reduce iteration cycles and accelerate learnings in the
process of new product development? Is it possible to improve the
quality of early versions and facilitate development decisions by
combining data-assisted formulation and early testing?
In a multi-category portfolio, we seek to strengthen capabilities in order to shorten iteration cycles, improve
formulation accuracy from initial stages of development, and validate key attributes in an agile and measurable way.
The focus is on incorporating technologies that enable better-informed early decisions, reduce rework and
development times, and decrease technical and sensory risk in a scalable way across categories.
What is expected of the solutions
We are looking for specific technological solutions (not methodologies/consulting) that address one or
more of the following areas:
Eficient Formulation
- Digital formulation platforms (recipe management and
optimization, restrictions, and performance). - Predictive models/AI to optimize ingredients’ functionality, cost,
and expected performance. - Simulation or “digital twins” applied to formulation and attributes
(where feasible). - Tools that reduce the number of physical iterations required.
Data and decision-making in product
development
- Tools that connect formulation + testing results for faster decisionmaking.
- Traceability of iterations, benchmarking, and reusable learning
repository.
Early testing
- Technologies for rapid testing of physico-chemical and
functional properties with small samples. - Accelerated evaluation systems (stability, texture,
viscosity, moisture, behavior, palatability, etc.). - Sensory and analytical tools and instrumentation to
generate objective and comparable metrics between
iterations. - Solutions for early screening that reduce dependence
on lengthy or larger-scale tests. - Tools for agile testing in later stages of development,
including packaging validation, performance in use,
consumer acceptance, willingness to pay, or other
relevant attributes prior to launch, among others. - Testing technology providers that offer technology
platforms or services through statistically valid external
testing models.
